What's New

Registrar's at McKinnon Hill Medical Centre

A GP Registrar is a fully qualified medical doctor, undertaking advanced training to specialise in General Practice. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners

RACGP requires aspiring General Practitioners to complete an advanced GP training program. Over at least two years, GP Registrars will attend placements at up to four different medical practices.

McKinnon Hill Medical Centre offers six or twelve-month placements to our Registrars. Here they receive a great opportunity to work in a busy yet supportive environment that focuses on family medicine and community health. Being qualified medical doctors, GP Registrars are knowledgeable and skilled. After six or twelve months Registrars generally move on to their next placement. Once they complete their final exams they are fully fledged General Practitioners and have the option to continue at McKinnon Hill Medical Centre.

Our current 2018 registrars are:

Dr Mira Klein and Dr Jessica McGloin

Iron Infusion (Ferinject®)

If your iron levels are low this may make you feel tired and not able to do normal daily activities. As the amount of iron in the body falls even lower, the haemoglobin level drops below normal. This is known as iron deficiency anaemia.

Why many women are Feeling stronger quickly with iron infusions?

It is very common to see Iron deficiency especially with adolescent girls, pregnant women, people on restricted diets such as vegetarians or vegans, athletes, and even those who had weight loss surgery.

Although Oral iron replacement with iron tablets is commonly used to treat iron deficiency many patients prefer IV treatment not just because of the speed of action but because tablets may not be well absorbed, or patients may suffer from ongoing side-effects such as constipation.

Iron infusions can be performed over the course of 15 minutes. The procedures start with a consent and then a cannula is inserted by a GP or qualified nurse. Most patients do not experience any side-effects however for some patients they may experience, dizziness, nausea, or skin reactions where your injection is given.

Skin Cancer Checks

The sooner a skin cancer is identified and treated, the better your chance of avoiding surgery or, in the case of a serious melanoma or other skin cancer, potential disfigurement or even death.

It is also a good idea to talk to your doctor about your level of risk and for advice on early detection.

It's important to get to know your skin and what is normal for you, so that you notice any changes. Skin cancers rarely hurt and are much more frequently seen than felt.

Develop a regular habit of checking your skin for new spots and changes to existing freckles or moles.
