Picture of Iron Infusion (Ferinject®)

If your iron levels are low this may make you feel tired and not able to do normal daily activities. As the amount of iron in the body falls even lower, the haemoglobin level drops below normal. This is known as iron deficiency anaemia.

Why are many womenfeeling stronger quickly with iron infusions?

It is very common to see Iron deficiency especially with adolescent girls, pregnant women, people on restricted diets such as vegetarians or vegans, athletes, and even those who had weight loss surgery.

Although Oral iron replacement with iron tablets is commonly used to treat iron deficiency many patients prefer IV treatment not just because of the speed of action but because tablets may not be well absorbed, or patients may suffer from ongoing side-effects such as constipation.

Iron infusions can be performed over the course of 15 minutes. The procedures start with a consent and then a cannula is inserted by a GP or qualified nurse. Most patients do not experience any side-effects however for some patients they may experience, dizziness, nausea, or skin reactions where your injection is given.
