What is the Medicare Safety Net?
The Medicare Safety Net is a government initiative that supports those who have high out-of-pocket medical costs each calendar year.
Once an individual/family reaches a certain amount of total out-of-pocket expenses incurred throughout the year from non-hospital related visits (for example, GP visits), their Medicare rebates for attending more medical visits become higher.
This way, individuals/families get more money back after having many Medicare-related consultations.
This initiative includes our practice: for each visit at Mckinnon Hill Medical Centre, you get closer to reaching that threshold to be eligible for higher rebates!
