ECG (Electrocardiogram)

Picture of Electrocardiogram

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test that records the heart’s electrical activity. It’s used to assess rhythm, identify irregularities, and investigate causes of chest pain, shortness of breath, or palpitations.

During the test, small electrodes are placed on the body. These detect the heart’s signals, which are recorded and printed for analysis. The test is completely safe—no electricity enters the body.

Sometimes ECGs are performed during exercise. These are known as stress ECGs and must be supervised by a medical professional.

ECGs are interpreted by trained doctors to help detect issues like heart disease, arrhythmia, or other abnormalities.
